Probate Court is the place people turn to when there is a death of a loved one. The court is responsible for seeing that property owned by a decedent is transferred pursuant to the person’s will or, if there is no will, pursuant to the laws of the State of Ohio. Probate Court is also responsible for adoptions, guardianships and protecting vulnerable citizens of Cuyahoga County.
When there is a death of a loved one, our Neighborhood Legal Centers offices serving Cuyahoga and surrounding counties can help take you through all of the steps necessary to transfer property of the decedent, including real estate, vehicles, bank accounts, stocks, bonds and other assets. Our attorneys handle matters in a compassionate and professional manner. We will take charge of making all court appearances at a difficult time, saving our clients from necessity of taking off time from work and worrying about details which can often be overwhelming. If required, we complete and file necessary tax returns and real estate transfers. We are there for you.
Many times, our relatives or friends become frail and ill and are not able to take care of their financial and personal matters. Their condition may also require admission to a hospital or nursing home. The law requires those persons to have guardians appointed by the Probate Court to see that vulnerable persons are protected along with their assets. Our office can help you file to become a guardian explaining the process and working with you and your relatives or friends to see that they are protected. We offer professional and compassionate representation at a time when it is most needed.
